Cyndi
Schick has been interested in art for as long as she can remember.
She grew up just outside of New York in Montclair, NJ and was undoubtedly
influenced by the endless art, architecture and excitement of the city.
She began studying art seriously while still in high school with watercolors
and oil painting. She received her B.S. degree in Economics, with a minor in
Studio Art, at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Cyndi lived and studied oil painting and art history is Paris for three
years under two professors: noted artist Nina, who has an MFA
from The National Academy of Fine Arts of Bulgaria, and art historian Chris Boïcos, DEA from the Sorbonne in Paris. Nina is a master oil painter and
has branched into video installation art and Chris Boïcos is an art
historian who owns an art gallery in Paris.
Cyndi’s art is influenced by both
Impressionism, due to its optical truth, and Modern, for its energy.
The painters that she admires most are: Edward Hopper (American 1882-1967),
Nicholas de Staël (Russian/French 1914-1955) and Gustave Caillebotte (French
1848-1894). Her favorite photographers are: Fred Stein (German
1909-1967), Willy Ronis (French 1910- still living), and Henri
Cartier-Bresson (French 1908-2004).
Over the years places of inspiration for
Cyndi have included the Montclair Art Museum, Artists’ Association of
Nantucket, Rockport Art Association, MFA Boston, MOMA New York, Louvre
Paris, Musée d’Orsay Paris, and The Light Factory Charlotte, NC.
